Nineteen twenty by ten eighty is Full HD — the resolution of most monitors, televisions and presentation projectors, and the right size for a desktop wallpaper or slide background. This tool produces exactly 1920x1080 pixels, cropping from the centre so faces stay centred and nothing is stretched.
If your source image is not already 16:9, filling the frame means cropping. For a wallpaper that is usually what you want; for a photograph you care about, pad it instead so nothing is lost.
The resize happens in your browser and your photo is never uploaded — which matters when the photo is attached to a passport or visa application.
Crop or pad?
Unless your original happens to share the 1920:1080 aspect ratio, something has to give. There are only two honest options, and the right one depends on what the image is for.
- Crop to fill scales the image until it covers the whole frame and trims the overflow from the edges. This is the default here, and it is what you want for portraits, profile pictures and passport photographs, where the subject is central and the edges are background.
- Fit inside scales the image until it fits entirely, leaving bars at the sides or top. Use it when losing any part of the picture is unacceptable — product photography, diagrams, screenshots, artwork.
What this tool will never do is stretch. A distorted face is instantly obvious and gets official photographs rejected, so squashing to fit is not offered at all.
Why downscaling quality matters
Reducing a 4000-pixel photograph to 1920 pixels means throwing away roughly83% of the original pixels, and how you throw them away is visible. A naive one-step resize samples too sparsely and produces aliasing — jagged diagonals, shimmering fine detail, moiré on fabric.
This tool steps down in halves instead, resampling repeatedly until it is close to the target and then making the final adjustment. Each halving averages neighbouring pixels properly, so detail is condensed rather than discarded at random. It is slightly more work and noticeably sharper, particularly on text and textures.

How do I resize an image to 1920x1080 px?
